Be Careful What You Wish For...

Into the Woods

The Summer season at The Prizery opens with one of the country’s most popular shows, Into the Woods.

Author James Lapine and composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim take everyone’s favorite storybook characters and bring them together for a timeless, yet relevant, piece... and a rare modern classic. The Tony Award-winning book and score are both enchanting and touching.

The story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King’s Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch’s curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone's wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results.

The Prizery brings this wildly popular American musical to the stage this weekend with the help of its professional staff and local thespians. Director Chris Jones auditioned and selected this talented bunch who will be sure to delight audiences this summer. Accomplished musician, Arthur Borsages, is the musical director for the eighth summer season. Cast members come from across the country and bring a broad range of expertise and experience to the stage. Audience members will also recognize cast members as a number of them are from Halifax County and have appeared in previous Prizery productions.

Into the Woods opens this Friday night at 7:30 p.m. and will run through Sunday, June 25. Tickets are available at the Box Office located at 700 Bruce Street; at the Halifax County Visitor Center; online at; and by calling 434.572.8339.
