WHEN: Launching in early Spring

WHERE: Online and sites throughout Halifax County

african American heritage trail

An African-American Heritage Trail for residents and visitors alike will provide a broader understanding of the lives of African-American pioneers, entrepreneurs, civic leaders, and business owners who struggled, triumphed, and established themselves in the fabric of our community. The trail will focus on sites and people that are recognized to have historical significance within the African-American community in Halifax County. A website will launch in early Spring with information on the trail sites, how to visit the sites, the process for adding more sites, photographs, history, and audio and video. The site will launch with five identified locations, including L. E. Coleman African-American Museum, Mary Bethune High School Complex, Meadville Community Center, Mizpah Presbyterian Church, and Washington-Coleman Elementary/Community Center and more will be added annually.
