Reason #3: Dark Skies
When: Saturday, March 25 and Saturday, October 21, 2017
Where: Staunton River State Park, Observation Field
One of the most precious gems in Halifax County is its night sky. The Staunton River State Park has earned International Dark Sky Association accreditation for its unobstructed views (limited light pollution) of the night sky. Each March and October astronomers from all over the world travel to Halifax County for a week-long observation session, including lectures and learning opportunities. The culminating event is a public viewing STAR PARTY where guests can view celestial objects through high-powered telescopes and learn about the night sky from astronomers. The event is FREE and great fun for the entire FAMILY.
