WHERE: Banister River, Dan River, Staunton (Roanoke) River, Kerr Lake, Lake Gaston (Halifax and Mecklenburg Counties)
IMAGINE a paddling experience unlike any other. That is what you will find on the Southern Virginia Wild Blueway. The Blueway consists of three rivers and two lakes in Halifax and Mecklenburg Counties that offer visitors and locals a wide variety of paddling opportunities. The rivers combine for more than 100 miles of navigable water. More than 80 of those miles are designated as Virginia Scenic River. The lakes, which both straddle the Virginia/North Carolina border, combine for more than 1,200 miles of shoreline. Beautiful scenery, great fishing, and interesting wildlife make it feel like a remote wilderness, but it is an easy drive from Richmond, Lynchburg, Raleigh, Greensboro, and other metro areas. So grab your board or rods and reels and explore the Southern Virginia Wild Blueway...Adventure awaits.
