Architectural History of Halifax County"This book, An Architectural History of Halifax County, is an amazing piece of deep research and writing that pulls together the narrative of buildings in a Southside county that many people might consider "rural," "out of the way," or deserving of only a "quick drive through." But, as Barbara Bass and members of the Halifax County Historical Society's Architectural Committee have shown, Halifax is a real treasure trove of architecture dating from the eighteenth century to the present, and the book should serve as a model for other counties, not just in Virginia but elsewhere." --Dr. Richard Guy Wilson, Commonwealth Professor in Architectural History at the University of Virginia

The book is a fascniating read filled with beautiful pictures  and histories of bulidings from the grand to the humble that create the history of Halifax County. The history of Halifax County can be traced back to American Indians and their surviving artifacts and the beginnings of English settlements in the mid-eighteenth century.
