Halifax County War Memorial
The Halifax County War Memorial honors men and women who served in wars from the American Revolution to Desert Storm. Seven hundred thirty-four soldiers from Halifax County, Virginia, made the ultimate sacrifice. Their names appear on the memorial to ensure future generations remember their bravery.
The memorial features a black granite monument as its centerpiece, engraved with the names of the fallen. A white pre-cast concrete structure surrounds the monument, complete with columns and a dome. This design honors those from Halifax County and Virginia who served in American wars. The memorial lists residents who died in action, from illness, or in accidents during wartime, even if not in combat zones.
The War Memorial Advisory Committee welcomes donations to support the memorial. You can contact Douglas Powell, Chairman of the committee, or reach out to the Halifax County Administration office. Checks should be payable to Halifax County Treasurer and sent to County Administration, P.O. Box 699, Halifax, VA 24558. Please include your contact information with your donation.
The Halifax County War Memorial stands at the intersection of Mountain Road and Route 501. It serves as a lasting tribute to the courage and dedication of those who gave their lives in service to their country. Visitors can visit and reflect on the sacrifices made by these heroes.
