A Revolutionary War encampment will be set up across from Beth Car Baptist Church located at 25 Church Street, Halifax, VA. This portion of the Friday events runs from 12PM to 4PM and will give the community the opportunity to see how our ancestors lived in 1781. Aside from the camp, there will be people dressed in period uniforms that are able to answer your questions. This is a great event for kids to participate in as well.
Later that evening, the Town of Halifax will host LeRae Umfleet, from the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources who will present an update on the current status of Greene’s Race to the Dan National Parks Service Grant Corridor Study entitled “Searching for Spaces and Places 1781: Gen. Greene Outmaneuvers Gen. Cornwallis.” This program starts as 5:30PM at the Beth Car Baptist Church Sanctuary. Following the talk from Mrs. Umfleet, the Virginia Society, Sons of the American Revolution Color Guard will lead a short march to the Halifax County War Memorial. At 6:30PM a musket salute will occur to honor General Greene, His Army & Fallen Revolutionary War Patriots from Halifax County.
