An Evening of Old Time Music and Dance

Description

The Green Grass Cloggers formed in 1971 and created distinctive choreography by combining square dance figures with original and draditional percussive steps - including the Jerry step by Jerry Lovelace, a South Boston local and original GGC dancer. The GGC dance style influenced performance clogging teams around the world when the original 1970s group and later the 1980s Asheville-based touring portion of the group traveled extensively to folk festivals across North America and to international events.

Flat Bridge is an old-time stringband featuring Emma Rast (fiddle), Daniel Ullom (mandolin), and Jamie Shelor (guitar). They are steeped in the vibrant fiddle scenes of North Carolina: rowdy fiddle conventions, late night kitchen jams, and square dances. They will be joined by Andy Smith, who danced with the touring Green Grass Cloggers in the 1980s. She was the original bass player for Ralph Blizard and the New Southern Ramblers and now teaches dance at Ferrum College.
