Fresh Finds in Halifax County, VA

Picture it. Welcoming smiles, warm greetings, farm fresh produce, and the bustle of locals exchanging pleasantries while browsing the week’s offerings. The town around you comes to life as more residents awake and head out for their weekend plans. The vendors’ days began much earlier, loading their vehicles with farm grown fruits, vegetables, and pasture raised meats before driving across the county to town. It may seem like something that would have occurred decades ago in a much simpler time, but this the Saturday routine for many locals of Halifax County.

Considering our agrarian roots, it should come as no surprise Halifax County has two farmers markets. The Halifax Farmers Market & Market Place in downtown Halifax, and the Downtown South Boston Farmers Market operate year-round, supplying patrons with all sorts of locally grown food. Stock your fridge and pantry with a variety of pasture-raised meats, fresh-picked produce, and home baked breads and sweets. The selection is not limited to food, patrons can also find homemade soaps, beard oils, starter plants, and flowers.

Hungry for more information? The Halifax Farmer’s Market & Market Place is open 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is located at 209 South Main Street in downtown Halifax. The Downtown South Boston Farmers Market is open 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is located at 300 Broad Street in downtown South Boston. Check the Facebook pages of the Halifax Farmers Market & Market Place and South Boston Farmers Market, updated weekly with details about upcoming vendors and what items will be available.
