From light displays at the state park, to Christmas tea in a historic mansion, and parades galore, we’ve made a list of Holiday events in Halifax County sure to inspire some Christmas cheer.
Sunday, December 1
Christmas Open House
1:30 – 4 pm | Patrick Henry’s Red Hill
The annual Christmas Open House is back at Red Hill! Guests will be treated to docent-guided tours of the historic buildings, including Patrick Henry’s house and law office, all decorated for the holidays. Free hot mulled cider and homemade cookies will be available throughout the afternoon. The gift shop will be offering a 10% discount on its regular shop merchandise on this special day. Admission to this event is FREE.
Christmas Wreath Workshop
11 am; 1 pm | Woodbine Vineyards
It’s time again! Come join us and learn to make your own fresh greenery wreath with Erin from Country Roads Flower Farm. Lots of varieties to choose from, along with embellishments you can add. There will be seasonal drinks and holiday snacks to enjoy as well. Registration required for wreath workshop.

We are going to start at the Fire Dept, head to the Grove, turn on Tobacco Road, Golden Leaf Road, head to Mulberry Road, Felix Road, Pumping Hill Road, Leda Grove Road back to the Fire Dept.

Sip, savor, and celebrate! Join us in the Library and Parlor of the Historic Mansion at Berry Hill Resort for our delightful Christmas Tea! Enjoy an afternoon filled with festive treats, aromatic teas, & warm holiday cheer. Gather your friends and family for a cozy escape this season! This English tradition will include finger sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and preserves, pastries, and a selection of fine tea blends. During our tea party, guests will enjoy a three-course menu and loose-leaf teas, also complimented by available coffee and champagne.

New Year’s Eve at Berry Hill

Ring in the New Year Berry Hill style! Treat yourself to our exclusive New Year’s Eve Package: a one-night stay in Queen Deluxe accommodations that include an Italian hand-crafted four-post canopy bed. A complimentary bottle of champagne and six chocolate-covered strawberries are available included with your stay.
The Chef has planned a delectable 4-course dinner, with a couple of fun surprises throughout the meal. The menu will include your choice of delicious Entrees of pan-seared Salmon with fennel and olives or a hand cut 6 oz. Filet Mignon with Espresso Chili Rub. Both entrees are served with four sides, served family-style.
Then, at 9 p.m., join us for an unforgettable New Year’s Eve DJ-hosted Dance Party in the Grand Ballroom! From 9:00 PM till 12:30 a.m., we’ll celebrate, and at the stroke of midnight, we’ll toast to 2025. A cash bar and snacks will be available, with evening cocktail specials!

Public Consumption is a six-piece band that utilizes both male/female vocalists to provide a wide variety of music ranging from dance, R&B, rock, country and alternative to 90’s and hard rock. This is a performance oriented band that always deliver as a LIVE act. They have been performing at festivals, local venues, and parties for many years. First Day Hike
10 am | Staunton River State Park
Ring in the New Year by joining us on a ranger-led hike on the River Bank Trail. Is your New Year’s resolution to get in better shape, spend more time with friends and family, or to be in nature more? This is the perfect opportunity to jump start those initiatives. The hike will be about two miles with a difficulty level of easy to moderate. We will have multiple opportunities to observe the Staunton River, Dan River, and the largest lake in Virginia: John H. Kerr Reservoir. Be sure to dress for the weather, wear appropriate hiking footwear, and bring a drink of water.
The hike will be subject to cancellation based on the weather. Please check our website or call our Visitor Center to confirm.
First Day Hike – History Walk
1 pm | Staunton River Battlefield State Park
Come join a park ranger on a guided walk to the historic bridge and earthworks here at Staunton River Battlefield State Park. Walk along the Battlefield Trail and discover the history behind the park and the significance of the battle that took place here over 160 years ago. Don’t forget to collect your free First Day Hike sticker as well!
