This two-day tour will have you tasting the menu at one of Virginia’s award-winning restaurants and then take you to South Boston Speedway to cheer with NASCAR fans. You’ll see larger than life sculptures guarded by goats that can only be seen here before taking to the links for a round of golf. So prepare for an adventure as you get a taste of Halifax County

Day 1
STOP : CUPPA JOE
Start your day with a cup of coffee from Southern Plenty. This eclectic cafe serves up homemade goodness from quiches to soups and salads, to chili. Place your order and find a seat in the newly remodeled eatery.

STOP : ENCHANTED SURROUNDINGS
Step inside of this beautiful building and pick your jaw up off the ground. Each gorgeous room is packed with elegant, local, and unique art, furnishings, and home decor. Year-round, visitors marvel at the Christmas room. Others come to peruse the estate jewelry, figurines, and decorative glass. Maybe you’ll find that one-of-a-kind folk art piece you just can’t leave behind.
STOP : PACO’S RESTAURANT & LOUNGE
Enjoy lunch at Paco’s, which serves authentic Spanish and Cuban fare in Downtown South Boston. From Mediterranean classics like paella or seafood, to Cuban sandwiches, this menu offers a wide variety of delicious meals. Looking for something smaller? The restaurant also features tapas, perfect for smaller portions or sharing with friends.
STOP : HUNTING CREEK VINEYARD
Next, drive along country roads to the north eastern corner of the county and visit Hunting Creek Vineyards for a tour and tasting. Believing in the phrase “from ground to glass,” the McPhersons monitor each step of the winemaking process, from growing the grapes on five acres of vineyards to aging them in their wine cellar. Enjoy views of the surrounding countryside while touring the vineyard and sampling wines. Be sure to pick up a bottle (or three) of your favorite as a souvenir from your vacation to Halifax County.
STOP : MOLASSES GRILL
Have lunch at the award-winning Molasses Grill in downtown Halifax. Listed as one of The 30 Places to Eat in Virginia Before You Die, this restaurant serves Southern Inspired cuisine. A fine-dining experience in a somewhat relaxed atmosphere, the walls are adorned with long, flowing curtains and artwork by owner and chef Steve Schopen. The menu features a few staples, in addition to an ever-changing seasonal menu that uses fresh, local ingredients.

STOP : PACKHOUSE
Venture to charming downtown Halifax and have breakfast at this cozy cafe. Paying homage to the county’s agrarian roots, many items on the menu at the Packhouse are named after tobacco. Enjoy a hearty, homemade breakfast before embarking on a retail expedition.
STOP : BOB CAGE SCULPTURE FARM
Turn off U.S. 360 onto Cage Trail and be prepared to slow down and pull over. Out the window goats meander like docents through an unlikely outdoor sculpture garden grazing the green Virginia farmland of the Cage Family Farm. Here, twisted, welded industrial metals compose 30-foot sculptures: A bird-shaped cage welded from thin spires, a sphere constructed from spoked bicycle wheel rims, a gnarled bright red, three-legged abstract piece with white teeth. Somewhere close to 100 sculptures span the 10-acre field, generating awe and curiosity to all who visit.
STOP : AMISH COUNTRY
Just north of the towns of South Boston and Halifax, VA lies the Nathalie Community where numerous Amish families have settled in recent years. Today the community offers over 30 merchant shops and service businesses: furniture and wood-working shops, a bulk food store and greenhouse, blacksmith shop, building supply store, food trailer, an auction barn, and more. Please Note: When visiting the Amish owned businesses and community, please be mindful of cultural differences. Follow posted traffic warnings and share the road with horse drawn buggies. Photography is generally forbidden within the Amish faith, please be respectful. All businesses are closed on Sunday.
STOP : JB BURGERS
There is a full-service restaurant inside the World of Sports. Find the food you love in a menu that features American grill cuisine, like their signature burgers, mouth-watering burgers, top-selling buffalo chicken dip and all your favorite game-time munchies.
STOP : GREEN’S FOLLY GOLF
A beautiful day calls for a beautiful round of golf. Take the whole family to Green’s Folly for a jolly walk through nine or 18 holes of golf. You know you’re in fore a good time on this historic site. Rolling hills, a pretty lake, and a little history to boot. The colonial manor on the property was built in 1771 and is one of Halifax County’s oldest buildings. The surrounding farmlands saw battles in the Revolutionary War and the Civil War. Abraham Lincoln married Mary Todd in a nearby Episcopal Church. Something to think about as you size up the fairway.
STOP : FACTORY STREET BREWING
Sip your favorite brew in the expansive tasting room or belly up to the bar for a tasting flight. Spend the evening on the patio with friends with a pint of your favorite pour. This South Boston Brewery is a great place to hang out and snack from a food truck while you sample the easy drinking Lawnmower Ale or the refreshing Grapefruit Pale Ale. Ah, now that’s good.
STOP : SOUTH BOSTON SPEEDWAY
Welcome to America’s Hometown Track. For six decades South Boston Speedway has been one of the most popular short tracks in NASCAR. This is the spot where legendary driver Richard Petty won five trophies. A couple of Earnhardts have also taken on the four-tenths-of-a-mile oval. This is a great place to tailgate and get a flavor of what racing is all about before heading to the stands for the smell of burning rubber and a fast-paced, thrilling good time.
